This week only! I'm having a sale in my Etsy shop. Check it out, and use the coupon codes below during checkout :) happy holidays!
Sorry for all those in the wait-til-after-Thanksgiving camp, but I'm kind of one of thooooose people:
...But I drew this little guy months ago, and I really want to share him with you!
Greetings from Krampus! As much as I love Christmas I think it's super fun to creepy-fy it sometimes. But looking at vintage ads and artwork featuring Krampus, it's positively nightmare fuel! I didn't want to do that for my own drawing, so I came up with this cute liddle guy.
Then, I decided to put him on products:
Wrapping paper is something new that I decided to try out this year. I bought the biggest sheets of paper my printer can fit (which is still not too terribly huge, but you can still wrap small boxes with it!) and covered them in little mini Krampuses (and also Tentacles, here!).
Krampus cards are available as singles, and also packs of four. Wrapping paper is sold as a pack of six. Pick some up, and send the coolest looking presents to friends, coworkers, uptight relatives, everyone!
I love creating small art. I suppose you could say it's kind of a comfort zone for me. Large canvases are...intimidating. A blank canvas on its own is scary enough, knowing that you have to actually fill up this terrifying white space with stuff from your own head, but if it's too large, the feelings are even worse.
So that's why, I've been creating very small pieces of art lately!
"A Portrait of Young Charlotte von Battingham," acrylic. Sold
Another thing I've been doing is scouring eBay and Etsy looking for small, brass vintage frames, and repurposing them for my own work. I've built up a sizable collection already, and I can't wait to fill them all with my weird little paintings!
"The Headless Baroness," acrylic. Sold
"Still Life with Meat," acrylic. Sold. This one's super tiny! The painting is only 2" tall!
As mentioned, these all have gone off to their permanent homes, but I will most certainly be making more, so keep an eye out!
My newest piece, inspired by medieval unicorn tapestries, and I'm so dang proud of it! I probably clocked in around 20 hours total, getting all the little details in:
Yesterday I posted a bunch of new stuff on my Etsy store - check it out!
First of all, a ton of original paintings!
I've been having a lot of fun with gouache. For those who don't know what gouache is, it's basically an opaque version of watercolor. It's easy to work with, it's less commitment than other types of paints (like oil - *groan*), and it seems like quite a portable medium. I really want to make one of those little DIY traveling watercolor palettes for trips to cons, and perhaps for my trip to Hawaii in August. These sea unicorns are tiny - only ACEO (2.5x3.5") sized, and come in these fancy little frames that I painted myself!
Next, these cute little brooches made from one of my newest prints:
And last, but not least - unisex t-shirts!
While my tank tops have been really great, I've been wanting to do unisex shirts for a while, mostly to accommodate guys and also plus sized ladies (since for some reason, my manufacturers just don't make my tank tops any larger than XL...wtf, right?). So, I decided to start off with my most overwhelmingly popular design! I'll be rolling out t-shirts of my other designs within the next few months, then I'll be releasing new designs later this year! So stay tuned!
Til next time,
Seattle! This weekend I'm going to be doing my very first solo art walk at Monster Art and Clothing in Ballard. I've been working very hard on this for the past few months, and I'm very excited to make this happen!
I will have a ton of original paintings up for sale, as well as some of my regular prints. The art walk event will be this Saturday, June 11th from 6-9pm at Monster (5000 20th ave NW, Seattle, WA, 98107), where you can hang out with me and enjoy some free refreshments! My artwork will be hanging in the shop for about a month.
RSVP to the Facebook event here!
Good evening all! I've been (as usual) very busy lately. I came home from a trip to Europe a couple weeks ago and ever since then it's been nonstop hustling. Phoenix Comicon is NEXT WEEKEND, Denver Comic Con is in a couple of weeks, plus a bunch of other exciting things in June that I'll announce later. But for now, I'd like to tell you about my brand new comic that you should totally read.
If you've checked my website anytime during the past few months, you've probably noticed a sneaky little page about this comic that provides very little information. So, what is Under the Red Moon about?
Well, if you're looking for some stereotypical cheesy kung-fu action comic about some hero's quest of getting revenge/restoring family honor blah blah blah, you're reading the wrong comic. Fei, our heroine, is a supernatural hunter who sleeps during the day and spends her nights chasing down monsters. Despite her parents being killed by one of said monsters, she's not doing it for revenge. She's doing it simply for the fat bounty that's exchanged for every head she brings back. But when danger seeps out from the shadows and threatens to engulf the world, what will she do?
Find out this Monday, May 30th, when the first page of Under the Red Moon is posted! I will be updating the comic on Tapastic as well as on its official Facebook page. Eventually I'm hoping to launch a standalone website.
Unfortunately, updates will be a bit sporadic for the next few weeks as I've got a looooot going on. I also want to pace myself with this comic and make sure that each page is given the attention it deserves. I'll send out an update when things get a bit more straightened out. I'm really excited about this comic, and I hope you enjoy it too!
Til next time,
I've been busy busy busy these past few weeks! I've been preparing and trying to make some new stuff for Sakura-Con and Emerald City Comicon coming up very soon. I tend to get restless during long stretches between cons/shows so I'm very excited for those to happen!
And now, I'm going to throw some new art at you.
"Sleeping Beauty" Photoshop CS5
Let me tell you, those flowers took forever. I tend to gravitate towards the too-many-petals varieties. But I think it was quite worth it in the end. This will be available as a print in my shop very soon.
This next one is a little bit different - in which I experiment with gilding! It was a messy process but I had a lot of fun with it!
"Girl with Asian Giant Hornet" ink and imitation gold flake on handmade paper
So, I'm pretty sure I saw one of these things during my trip to Bali last year. It was the size of my thumb, and actively building a nest in our bathroom, which was a bit stressful. In fact, that was 1 of 2 stressful bee encounters during that trip (the other one involved a nest of regular bees getting into our room and us waking up one morning to find bees everywhere. Thankfully we had a mosquito net over the bed). Also, during the entire trip I was quite worried about getting Dengue fever, being the mosquito magnet that I am. Needless to say, bugs were quite a hot topic during that trip, which may explain why they're popping up in my art a lot recently.
(For those wondering, I did not get a single bee sting or mosquito bite. Yay :) )
Also, as a bonus, here's something that I finished today:
"Smile" Acrylic, graphite and ink on watercolor paper
Um...I don't have a fun explanation/story for the ants. Just ants.
These pieces will be coming with me to my upcoming cons, plus many more, so be sure to stop by if you're attending!
Til next time~
Exciting day today! My Monster Girl coloring book, which I've been working on for the past few months, is finally ready for preorder!
The book features 15 Monster Girls for you to color in, plus the cover and front are additionally black and white as a coloring bonus :) Click on the pictures below for a preview!
The books are $13 USD each, plus shipping. They will be printed double-sided, on 80lb light cardstock. I've tested out pens, pencils and markers on this paper myself without any bleeding, so it's pretty durable!
Also! As a bonus, I will be including a FREE Centaur Girl temporary tattoo with every preorder!
Preorders will be up until March 1st, which is when the books will be shipped out. You'll still be able to order one after this date, however they won't come with a fun temporary tattoo :)
Get yours HERE!
Oh my goodness, I can't believe it's been over a year since I last updated this blog. Yikes. What was I up to last year? Well, I did a lot of traveling (as always), I launched the comic (which has taken up about half my life, basically) and took up a part time job. So, I've been busy busy busy. I've also been working on a couple of projects these past few months! One of them includes a Monster Girl themed coloring book :)
I first noticed adult coloring books being a thing months and months ago, when the girls in several of my facebook groups were going gaga over a few of them on sale on Amazon. Ever since then, I've noticed them EVERYWHERE, especially bookstores and airports. So, I figured, why not make my own?
This may remind some of you of that '30 Day Monster Girl' challenge that's all over tumblr. I did in fact get the idea from that, however for this project I'm going by my own list :) there will be 15 designs total, and as I write this blog, 7 of them have been completed. I am aiming to have it all completed and ready by the time Emerald City Comic Con rolls around. I will be sure to post more info once it's ready, so stay tuned :)
Cheers and Happy New Year! -Megan
